PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a quality that has close corellation with the actual quality index of a reproducing device. SOLUTION: An MAE circuit 9, outputs the averaged absolute values of the equalization errors (the difference in the output of an FIR filter 5 and a target value) given from an LMS circuit 8 as the quality MAE of this reproducing device. A control circuit 10, compares the quality MAE from the MAE circuit 9 and the predetermined reference d and outputs a control signal CT1-CT5 depending on the comparison results. An analog filter 3 changes the filter characteristics, in response to the control signal CT1. An LMS circuit 8 changes the step size of the LMS algorithm, in response to the control signal CT2. An FIR filter 5 changes the number of taps and the default settings of the tap coefficients, in response to the control signal CT3. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
