PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a high-pressure discharge lamp exhibiting excellent characteristics. SOLUTION: The high-pressure discharge lamp 100 comprises: an arc tube 10 constituted of a pair of electrode 12, 12' facing each other; a metal foil 24 connected to the electrode 12, 12' by welding; and sealing portions 20, 20' sealing the metal 24, portions of the electrode 12, 12' being embedded into the sealing portions 20, 20', a metal film 30 consisting of Pt being formed at the surface of the electrode 12, 12' embedded into the sealing 20, 20', and the metal film 30 not being formed at a connecting portion 32 connecting with the metal foil 24.
