<p>The invention relates generally to a human MrgD polypeptide, one of a family of recently identified G protein coupled receptors (Figure 6B) that are involved in pain sensation. Particular methods are provided for identifying agonists and antagonist of human MrgD, along with methods of utilizing the agonists and antagonists in modifying the perception of pain.</p>
