PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electronic flash apparatus incorporated in a camera, which prevents degradation in operability and has little energy loss. SOLUTION: In the electronic flash apparatus having a discharge tube, a main capacitor which accumulates the luminance energy of the discharge tube, and a voltage increasing circuit which increases a battery voltage, an increase in a voltage applied to the main capacitor and the control of reverse charge from the main capacitor to the battery are enabled. In order to lessen energy loss from the main capacitor in a state in which the strobe is not used, energy once stored in the main capacitor is returned to the battery.
