PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a low offset Faradaic current position transducer which operates in required signal gain and position errors of tolerance levels and can be manufactured and assembled with a low cost. SOLUTION: The low offset Faradaic current position transducer 100 generates a primary magnetic field from at least one transmitter winding 122 on a lead head 120. The primary magnetic field generates an induction current in a tape scale 110. Apertures 112, 116 are formed in the tape scale 110, consisting of conductive materials, and the apertures 112, 116 determine the pattern of induced current which flows inside of the tape scale 110, including the induced current flowing in a volume apart from the primary magnetic field. A secondary magnetic field, based on this induced current couples with inductively one or more receiver windings 124, 126 on the lead head 120. Depending on the relative position between the lead head 120 and the scale 110, the receiver windings 124, 126 couples inductively to the tape scale 110 with different degrees. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
