PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform high quality recording by surely and adequately assuring a distance between a recording head and a recording medium by using a simple mechanism. SOLUTION: This recorder comprises a recording medium feeder 2 for feeding the recording medium one by one to a downstream side, the recording head 13 for recording on the recording medium, a carriage 10 that can reciprocate in a main scanning direction along a carriage guide shaft 12 and has the recording head 13 mounted thereon, a conveyor roller 19 having a conveyor driving roller and a conveyor follower roller for conveying the recording medium, and a recording medium stacker 50 that can take a first position and a second position. The recorder further comprises a first link mechanism that displaces the carriage guide shaft 12 by displacing the recording medium stacker 50. When the recording medium stacker 50 takes the first position, the carriage guide shaft is upwardly displaced along with the displacement of the recording medium stacker. As a result, the carriage guide shaft cannot be lowered as long as the recording medium stacker takes the first position. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
