<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new apparatus and method for the screening of a large number of polymers such as polypeptides. <P>SOLUTION: The apparatus aims at the screening of a polymer containing a substrate having a surface. The surface contains at least two predetermined regions, the predetermined regions contain different monomers on the surface, and each of the predetermined regions has an area of <0.1 cm<SP>2</SP>or thereabout. The method for producing various polymers on the known positions of a single substrate surface contains (1) a step comprising (a) the removal of eliminable protecting groups from the selected region on the substrate surface and (b) the exposure of the selected region to a selected monomer having eliminable protecting group and the bonding of the selected monomer to the part left after the removal of the protecting group and (2) a step to repeat the above step by using the selected region and the selected monomer. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO</p> |
