PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an ink cartridge which can supply ink surely to a recording head by responding surely to a micro differential pressure between the cartridge and a recording head thereby sustaining a negative pressure suitable for printing between them regardless of rolling of ink, and can prevent leakage of ink regardless of pressure rise on the ink supply port side or leakage of ink from the recording head. SOLUTION: The ink cartridge having the ink supply port 2 for supplying ink to the ink jet recording head, and an ink chamber 4 communicating with the ink supply port 2 is further provided with a membrane valve seat 3, i.e. an elastically deformable body, interposed between the ink chamber 4 and the ink supply port 2 while having a central through hole 6 for conducting ink, and a valve element 8 disposed movable to face the through hole 6 and becoming a sealing member.
