The method involves milling two open recesses (10) along two opposite edges (2, 4) of the wood block so that the recesses each have a length running in the axial direction of the block (1), a constant recess width and a flat base surface (7) and wall (6) extending from the surface to the base surface. The wall remote from the edge is rounded in the direction of the recess width. The recess lengths are equal and the longitudinal ends are together in a plane perpendicular to the axial direction. The free end of the milling tool defines the base of the recess and the radius of the tool defines the radius of the rounded wall area. An L-section edge patching strip with two right-angled arms fits into the recesses and connects with the wood block. Independent claims describe milling template and an edge patching strip.
