A spinning machine has a drafting station with a feed wheel for core thread. The feed wheel has a V-shaped cross-sectional profile with side-flanks each side of the trough (15). The side-flanks are traversed by a single groove (23) running the full width of the flanks (20, 21) and side-flanks (14, 22) at an acute angle alpha. The lowest point (24) in the transverse slit (23) is deeper than the deepest point in the wheel (19).
