The press section for the web passing through a papermaking machine, and the like, has at least two adjacent press gaps formed by shoe press rollers (2,4) with a concave surface and counter rollers (3,5). Continuous belts pass around the shoe press and counter rollers. The belts (6,9) at the counter rollers are detached from the web (1) on leaving the press gaps, while the web is transferred between the press gaps by the other belts (7,8). The shoe press rollers act on different sides of the web.
