摘要 A method and apparatus for effectively encoding an audio signal into a Moving Picture Experts Group (MPEG)-1 layer III audio signal of a low-speed bitrate. In the audio encoding method, harmonic components are extracted using fast Fourier transformation (FFT) result information that is obtained by applying psycho-acoustic model 2 to received pulse code modulation (PCM) audio data. Then, the extracted harmonic components are removed from the received PCM audio data. Thereafter, the PCM audio data from which the extracted harmonic components are removed is subjected to a modified discrete cosine transform (MDCT) and quantization. Accordingly, efficient encoding can be achieved even using a small number of allocated bits.
