PURPOSE: An apparatus and a method are provided to reduce vibrations and noises caused due to the overshoot and settling occurring in each step, while reducing a power consumption. CONSTITUTION: An apparatus comprises a control unit(300) for dividing a step range into a first step section and a second step section by a step split ratio corresponding to a stepping speed, and controlling an excitation current in such a manner that the excitation current is applied to a step motor(320) by attenuating the excitation current of the first step section applied to the step motor by the current attenuation ratio corresponding to the preset torque margin value; and a driving unit(310) for driving the step motor in accordance with the control signal input from the control unit.
