PURPOSE: A motor control system is provided to allow for an emergency operation of electric vehicle upon occurrence of shutdown of motor drive system of electric vehicle, while achieving improved performance and reliability of electric vehicle. CONSTITUTION: A motor control system comprises an insulated gate bipolar transistor(IGBT)(210) for driving three phases; a thyristor switch(220) interposed between the insulated gate bipolar transistor and a motor(260), and connected to the three phases of the insulated gate bipolar transistor; a motor controller(230) for judging faults of the insulated gate bipolar transistor, and generating a drive control signal upon occurrence of shutdown of motor drive system of electric vehicle; a first gate generator(240) for shutting off the gating of the insulated gate bipolar transistor corresponding to the phase with faults in accordance with the gating shutoff drive control signal input from the motor control unit; and a second gate generator(250) for turning on the thyristor switch corresponding to the phase with faults in accordance with the thyristor drive control signal input from the motor control unit.
