PURPOSE: A system for shielding sink head of gravity casts is provided to minimize defects inside product by insulating the sink head of product and applying a proper heat to the sink head and reduce treatment cost of the sink head after casting by reducing volume of the sink head, and a method for controlling the same is provided. CONSTITUTION: The system comprises a shielding device(10) which is equipped with heating means(11) for heating an upper surface of the sink head(7) and shields an upper surface of hot top mold(3); first temperature measuring means(20) for detecting current temperature of the upper surface of the sink head(7) in the state that the upper surface of the sink head(7) is opened; second temperature measuring means(30) for detecting current temperature of the upper surface of the sink head(7) in the state that the upper surface of the sink head(7) is shielded by operation of the shielding device(10); and a control means(40) for controlling operation of the shielding device(10) and the heating means(11) according to current temperature of the upper surface of the sink head(7) detected from the two temperature measuring means(20,30).
