1,251,264. Aircraft simulators. GOODYEAR AEROSPACE CORP. 14 April, 1969 [22 May, 1968], No. 18911/69. Heading B7W. [Also in Division G2] An aircraft simulator has a reflective highly directional screen 14 and projectors 10, 12 to project images at different angles towards the screen to create images in two exit pupils 16, 18 where the pilot and co-pilot, respectively, sit, so that both are provided with a geometrically correct display. The projectors may be TV projectors or film projectors and project their images on to the substantially spherical screen at an angle of 15-30 degrees and an infinity effect is obtained by the use of eyepiece lenses 15 at a distance from the screen equal to their focal length. In a second embodiment, Fig. 2 (not shown), an aircraft fuselage (20) is provided with two forward windows and two at each side. Two coloured and eight black-and-white projectors provide individual images for each of the windows. The side windows are each supplied with a single image. The screen is a laminate of clear vinyl and aluminized "Mylar" (Registered Trade Mark) with a plastic foam backing. |
