The growth of non-human animals is promoted by administering to the animals (a) a feedstuff or (b) water containing from 0.0015% to 0.03% in the case of (a) and 0.00075% to 0.015% in the case of (b) by wt. of 1-methyl -5-nitroimidazole-2-ylmethyl carbamate. The feedstuff may also contain calcium methionine hydroxy analogue, calcium pantothenate, choline chloride, niacin, folic acid, vitamins E, A and B 12 , calcium carbonate and iodate, zinc oxide, cobalt and iron carbonate, sodium chloride manganous oxide and copper oxide and hydroxide.
