For the biological cleaning of sewage (13), in a sewage processing plant, at least one basin (10) to hold the sewage contains support surfaces for the colonization of a bio-mass using a number of plastics strips or strands as basin filling material (14). The strips/strands float upwards from their lower attachments at a grid (16) on the base (15) of the basin. The strips/strands can be in a horizontal or an angled alignment.
