PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a light source device and a projection type display which can cut off transmitted light from a reflector more completely and can perform more effective cooling than conventional technologies. SOLUTION: The light source device 1 is equipped with a lamp 2 as a light source, a reflector 11 equipped with a reflection part 12 and a cylindrical bottom part 13 for fixing the lamp 2, and a lamp shade 3 which is arranged at a specific interval with the bottom part 13. A ferrule part 23 is provided at an end part of the lamp 2, the ferrule part 23 is inserted into and fixed in the bottom part 13 and projects to behind the reflector 11, and the lamp shade 3 is fitted to the ferrule part 23. The lamp shade 3 has a bottom surface part 31 where a fitting hole 32 that the ferrule part 23 penetrates and an air hole 33 through which cooling air passes are bored and a flank part 35 which covers the reflector 11 along the reflection part 12 of the reflector 11 and forms a flow passage for cooling air between with the reflection part 12. |
