FIELD: detoxification methods. SUBSTANCE: invention proposes a method for thermal demerurization of multilayered and/or sorption-active floor coverings made from different nonconducting materials and cleaning of in-door air. Method comprising heat treatment of mercury-polluted surfaces and mercury-accumulating areas to heat dispersed particles of mercury metal and ejection of mercury vapors from localized treated space to be further purified on sorption filters is characterized by that heating of mercury particles dispersed in the bulk of mercurycontaining material is effected with the aid of high-frequency field to the depth 150-300 mm until content of mercury in air achieves 3.10-4 mg/cu.m. EFFECT: avoided damaging action of degassing factors, preserved functional properties of coverings, increased treatment depth, and increased degree of demerurization.
