Compositions of restricted cells capable of rapid growth which produce proliferation suppressive materials

Composition useful in suppressing proliferation of cells, produced by entrapping rapidly proliferating cells in a biocompatible, selectively permeable structure, culturing the entrapped cells in a culture medium which restricts their proliferation, wherein the cells produce a material which suppresses their proliferation, and filtering the medium to obtain material with a molecular weight of at least 30 kDa. Also covered is a process for producing the proliferation-suppressing material, and a process for preparing a biocompatible, semi-permeable structure.
