The safety support system for the hurdle bars, at jumps for horse riding competitions, has a laying trough (2b) for the hurdle bars at a carrier (2a) for fitting to a post at a pivot point (2d) and supported on a pin (1d). The pivot point is horizontally offset from the laying trough and behind it. A lock (3) holds the carrier in its operating position, to be deflected or broken when an excessive vertical force is applied to the laying trough, to allow the carrier and laying trough to move out of its working position.
