The bottle or cup holder for a motor vehicle has a circular bottom (11), an axially movable side section (1), and a housing (2) to fit in the vehicle and at least partially encompassing the bottom and side section. The side section is mounted in a wall of the housing with rotational and axial movement capability by means of a slotted slide guide (6). The wall of the housing is a double wall with a cavity (9) between the outer (3) and inner (4) walls, with one sidewall (5) of the side section guided within the cavity.
