Apparatus for testing the liquid tightness and permeability of windows, doors, &c. comprises a chamber 10 having a rear wall 15, a fixed side wall 14, a displaceable side wall 13, a vertically movable upper wall 11 and a base 12, the chamber being open on one side and pressure cylinders 16 being provided to seal a test window, door, &c. to the open side. The chamber is mounted in a framework consisting of two side frames having front and rear vertical beams 3 and 5 respectively connected by horizontal cross beams 8, 9. The beams 3, 5 of each frame are connected by telescopically adjustable beams 2, 4 and 6, 7. The upper wall 11 is suspended from cables 24 which pass over rollers 21, 22 and are connected to a counterweight 23 on the side of the framework opposite to a control panel 30. Vertical beams 26, 27 which are laterally displaceable have their lower ends positioned within the U-shaped crosssection of the beam 8 and their upper ends are provided with rollers 31 which roll in the similarly shaped beam 9. The side wall 13 is mounted on one of the beams 27 and its upper part is divided into a number of portions separated by rubber strips, the portions being inter-connected by a rubber or plastics mat. This construction enables the top of the wall to be folded over in order to adjust the height of the wall to correspond to the height of a test window, &c. The flexible upper portion of the wall includes a device for stiffening the wall. The rear wall 15 is coated with a layer 48 of tin plate to which a spray nozzle 51 is magnetically attached in any required position. To test a window and its frame 20, the movable walls are adjusted in position to correspond to the periphery of the window frame and a hydraulically operated pressure cylinder 17 is actuated to press the wall 11 against the wall 14. A similar pressure cylinder 18 presses the wall 11 against the movable wall 13, sealing surfaces being provided to ensure a seal between the walls. The beams 26 are then evenly spaced across the chamber opening and pressure cylinders 16, the positions of which are vertically adjustable, are actuated to seal the window frame to the chamber opening, sealing surfaces being provided on the edges of the chamber walls. Water from a line 52 is then sprayed into the chamber by the nozzle and collects in a trough 57.
