An MRI apparatus having a pulse sequence of dynamic MRA. A pulse sequence executed for monitoring arrival of a contrast medium at a target vessel is substantially the same as the imaging pulse sequence except that the number of phase encodes and/or the number of slice encodes is small. A time-series image reconstructed with data measured under the condition of application of a gradient magnetic field of low spatial resolution is displayed to ascertain that the contrast medium has arrived at the target vessel. When the contrast medium arrives at the target vessel, a phase encode and a slice encode are added to continue the measurement pulse sequence without changing the pulse sequence itself. The first image after the measurement is created by interpolating image data with the data acquired in monitoring on arrival of the contrast medium. Thus the arrival of the contrast medium can be reliably monitored with high time-resolution, the measurement is effected with most suitable timing, and a favorable vessel image is formed.
