PURPOSE: A high density multilayered optical disk, and a method for managing formatting according to the same are provided to more efficiently format a plurality of recording layers by formatting unformatted recording layers automatically or in a formatting method designated by a user. CONSTITUTION: Management information for managing a plurality of spare areas separately assigned to data areas of recording layers, and defect management information for managing defects are written and managed as DDS(Disk Definition Structure) information rewritable at a lead-in area of a first recording layer. The DDS information additionally includes formatting status information identifying formatting status of the first recording layer and a second recording layer.
