A drafting frame has roller pairs including an output roller pair for drafting a sliver and are successively disposed and operate at higher speeds; a condensing zone for receiving the drafted sliver between upstream and downstream clamping locations; and a pneumatic sliver compactor comprising suction opening and a transport member having perforations. A drafting frame (1) comprises roller pairs for drafting a sliver (10), a condensing zone (5), and a pneumatic sliver compactor. The roller pairs (2, 3), which include an output roller pair (4), are successively disposed and operate at higher speeds. The condensing zone receives the drafted sliver between upstream and downstream clamping locations. The upstream clamping is formed by a nip of the output roller pair, while the downstream clamping is engaging the sliver between pressing element and the peripheral portion of the roller. The pneumatic sliver compactor comprises a suction opening and a transport member having perforations passing across the suction opening and over the pressing element. The member is for drawing sliver fibers to condense the drafted sliver upstream of the second clamping location.
