In a vapour generator for a marine power plant having a generally rectangular setting with tubes for cooling its walls, a compartment 38 housing a reheater 14 and having burners 116 is located within the upper part of the setting and separated from the furnace chamber 34 with burners (78), Fig. 3 (not shown), and the convection section 36 housing a superheater 12 by a tubular gas impervious partition. The furnace chamber extends for the full height of the setting over part of the width and the partition extends rearwardlc from the front wall 48 of the setting to the boiler section 30. The partition is formed by the upper vertical portions of tubes 92 lining the lower part of the setting side wall 51 and tubes 108, Fig. 4, extending between the horizontal headers 64 and 94. The header 64, Fig. 5, communicates with the lower drum 42 and is attached to the front wall header 58. A diaphragm (65), Fig. 6 (not shown), isolates the rearward portion of the header 64, from which the tubes 108 extend, from the forward portion which is protected from the furnace gases by a portion 96, Fig. 5, of the tubes 92. The upper portions 72b of tubes 72, Fig. 2, lining the lower portion of the rear of the furnace chamber 34 are mutually spaced apart and screen the superheater 12 and reheater 14 from the radiant heat from the burners 78 and 116. The generator is vertically supported from the lower drum 42 of the boiler section 30 and the horizontal headers 58, 60 and 62 which are mounted at spaced points thereabout. The generator (11), Fig. 1 (not shown), supplies an ahead turbine (16) with high and low pressure stages, steam from the high pressure stage being reheated in the reheater (14) before being passed to the low pressure stage. When supplying an astern turbine (18) the operation of the burners 116 in the reheater compartment 38 is terminated.</p>
