A method of preparing a porous silicone material from an emulsion of silicone in water The silicone emulsion comprises one or more polyorganosiloxanes crosslinkable by polyaddition, polycondensation, cationic or radical means, optionally a crosslinking organosilicon compound, optionally a catalyst or crosslinking initiator, an anionic, cationic or non-ionic surfactant and water. The emulsion is placed in a container, optionally pre-crosslinked and then destabilized by addition of a factor inhibiting the action of the surfactant, which initiates coalescence of the droplets of the silicone phase and leads to a homothetic contraction of the gel. The silicone phase is then crosslinked or crosslinking is completed before drying to obtain the material. The container serves as a mold for the material. Independent claims are included for a porous silicone material obtainable by use of the method and for an article in a porous silicone material obtainable by use of the process. |
