<p>A display device drive method can appropriately control the colored state in each pixel, perform gradation display, and display at high speed with low power consumption. This drive method is used for a display device in which a predetermined voltage is applied to each pixel to precipitate and dissolve metal, thereby displaying an image. A voltage pulse or AC voltage having amplitude not greater than a threshold value for precipitating the metal is applied and the write pulse or erase pulse is controlled according to the current flowing at this moment. Alternatively, after write is complete and when the aforementioned current has become equal to or below a predetermined value, an additional write pulse is added.
