A high vacuum fan (L) is connected to the outlet pipe (10) for the cooled filter gas in order to generate a sub-atmospheric pressure inside the collection space (9) for this gas. A temperature monitoring device (H) measures gas temperature in the downstream part of the heat exchanger (C) and a valve (I) in an air pipe (20) is opened to allow cool ambient air to enter the tank (1) if the gas temperature in the downstream part of the heat exchanger exceeds a pre-determined limit. - A hot gas cooler comprises a tank with a hot gas inlet (B) connected to its lower part (2) and a discharge valve (K) for the separated particles located beneath the gas inlet. Hot gases flow in a vertical direction over a heat exchanger located above the gas inlet and cooled by a flow of ambient air passing through it. A particle filter (E) is located above the heat exchanger and the cooled and filtered gas flows into a collection space connected to an outlet pipe. A high vacuum fan is connected to the outlet pipe in order to generate a sub-atmospheric pressure inside the collection space which is lower than the pressure in the gas inlet. A temperature monitoring device measures gas temperature in the downstream part of the heat exchanger. An air pipe extends through the tank wall in the lower part of the tank and contains a valve which is opened to allow cool ambient air to enter the tank from the ambient atmosphere if the gas temperature in the downstream part of the heat exchanger exceeds a pre-determined limit. |
