PURPOSE: A cathode ray tube is provided to control easily luminance and contrast by controlling actively the transmissivity according to supply voltages. CONSTITUTION: A cathode ray tube includes an electron gun(130), a deflection yoke(150), a panel(140), a shadow mask(170), and a transmitivity change element(200). The electron gun(130) is installed at a neck portion of a backside of a funnel(120) in order to radiate electron beams. The deflection yoke(150) is installed to surround the neck portion of the backside of the funnel(120) in order to deflect vertically or horizontally the electron beams. The panel(140) is combined with the funnel(120). A phosphor screen is formed on an inner face of the panel(140). The shadow mask(170) is installed at the backside of the panel(140) in order to select colors of the electron beams. The transmitivity change element(200) is formed on an outer side of the panel(140) to control the transmitivity of the electron beams.
