<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To control an emission power from a light source so as to obtain a proper response characteristic based on target values. <P>SOLUTION: This power control device comprises feedforward system 17-23 wherein the currents Ird, Ier corresponding to the target values Vread, Verase set in target value setting sections 10, 11 are switched by a switch SW2 and supplied to an adder 15 as a power setting current Iobj, feedback system PD, 16, and 12-14 wherein the power of a laser light Po emitted from a semiconductor laser LD as a light source is detected and the feedback current Ic is controlled so as to make the difference between the power of the laser light and the target values Vread, Verase be stable given values, a switch SW1 for switching and supplying the target values Vread, Verase to the feedback system, and the adder 15 for generating a drive current Idv by adding the feedback current Ic and the power setting current Iobj to drive the semiconductor layer LD.
