<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a shortened constitution, wherein printed boards are placed with the faces thereof orthogonal to one another and the length of an encoder in the axial direction is reduced. <P>SOLUTION: A rotary machine is structured as follows the printed boards (7, 8, and 9) in the encoder (2) are placed with the faces thereof, orthogonal to one another to reduce the length thereof in the axial direction.
