PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a structured document editing device for displaying the information on a document editing position in an editor to accurately exhibit the condition of the document editing position. SOLUTION: In editing a structured document prepared by using a DTD (Document Type Definition), the DTD is analyzed, and a DFA (Document Finite Automation) is prepared for each element in the DTD and stored in a DTD storing means. Further, the structured document itself is analyzed, and a tree structure corresponding to the document structure is prepared and stored in a document storing means. When the editing position of the displayed structured document is selected, the position on the tree structure, data division and content model corresponding to the selected position are displayed by referring to the document storing means and the DTD storing means.
