PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a negative electrode material for a non-aqueous lithium battery element of a high capacity and high output, which is formed of a composite porous material with a carbon material deposited on the surface of activated carbon by heat treatment of the precursor of the carbon material and activated carbon. SOLUTION: This negative electrode material is formed by heat treating a composite porous material for 30 minutes to 10 hours at temperatures of≥400°C and≤1,000°C in a range in which the weight ratio of the precursor of the carbon material to activated carbon is >2 and <10.
