<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image processing apparatus and a control method therefor in which high-speed data transfer/processing is performed and data are highly efficiently handled by compressing image data for each packet. <P>SOLUTION: JPEG compressed image data for one page with a restart marker inserted therein are inputted to the image processing apparatus for each block of (a) minimum coding units (MCU). With respect to the inputted image data, a group composed of the (a) minimum coding units and the inserted restart marker is defined as one block, the image is rearranged while keeping the compressed block unit to generate an image packet, and images for one page are reconfigured into a group of M×N lateral and longitudinal image packets.
