PURPOSE: A method and a device for generating a serial number are provided to make the serial number having an available period for a constant time or making only an authorized specific user use a product. CONSTITUTION: A code generator(301) generates the code information based on the current time information and a random number. A condition information setting part(302) generates the condition information by receiving the basic information such as the information of an allowed user and an allowed available period for the product. An MAC information generator(303) receives the code information and the condition information, and generates the corresponding MAC information by using a Hash function. An encryption part(304) generates the serial number after encrypting the code information, the condition information, and the MAC information by using a password.
