PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of evaluating performance of silica for giving flame resistance which can conveniently evaluate the performance of a silica for giving a resin the flame resistance, the silica having the excellent performance for giving the flame resistance determined by the evaluation method and a resin composition containing the silica and having the excellent flame resistance. SOLUTION: The method of evaluating the performance of silica for giving flame resistance evaluates the performance of a silica for giving the resin the flame resistance. In the method, the evaluation is performed by using a combination of a heat value per unit weight confirmed at a temperature of 100°C-400°C by a differential scan calorimetric measurement, and/or a differential thermal analysis of the silica under an air flow and an integration intensity ratio AQ<SB>3</SB>/AQ<SB>4</SB>obtained from a peak obtained by a<SP>29</SP>Si-DD/MAS-NMR measurement of the silica, located in the range of -120 to -80 ppm and separated into a Q<SP>3</SP>silica component and a Q<SP>4</SP>silica component.
