PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image recorder in which the lifetime of a recording head can be prolonged. SOLUTION: In a recording head 10 having n recording elements arranged in the subscanning direction at pitch p, A=L/(p(n-1)) (A is a natural number obtained by raising to unit fractions lower than decimal point) is calculated, where L is the length of a recording area at least in the carrying direction of a recording article, and A is the number of scanning times of the recording head 10 in the subscanning direction. Among the n recording elements, N recording elements are employed per single scanning of the recording head 10 in the main scanning direction, where N=((L/A)÷p)+1 (N is a natural number obtained by raising to unit fractions lower than decimal point). The N recording elements are arranged such that continuous recording element groups are selected, at pitch p, in the subscanning direction of the recording head 10. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
