<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus by which the occurrence of a problem due to the turn-on failure of a discharging light source is solved by actually allowing performance. <P>SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus is provided with an abnormality detecting means 27 to detect the abnormality of a static eliminator 16 and a voltage changeover means 29 to switch applied voltage to a charging device 11 based on a command from a CPU 28 upon detecting the abnormality of the static eliminator 16 by the abnormality detecting means on the same control board 26. Two-component developer consisting of toner and carrier is used as developer, and an LED lamp 17 may be used as the discharging light source of the static eliminator. Also, the apparatus is provided with an informing means to inform a user of the abnormality when the abnormality of the static eliminator is detected by the abnormality detecting means, and image forming operation may be stopped by shifting to an error mode after the completion of the series of image outputting operation upon detecting the abnormality of the static eliminator by the abnormality detecting means. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO |
