PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the size and price of a device that is to be mounted on a moving body or carried by a person and utilizes the GPS (global positioning system). SOLUTION: Among functions required for a GPS receiver, positioning calculation and satellite selection are separated from the functions and made to be borne by a second processing section 16. Preferably, the second processing section 16 and, in addition, a first processing section 14 are provided in the same ASIC as that of a third processing section 17 used for navigation. The plurality of processing sections provided in the same ASIC can be realized as the software executed on the same hardware. The first processing section 14 executes and realizes searching/tracking and the reception and demodulation of navigation data and information transmission is performed between the first and the second processing sections 14 and 16 through a shared memory 15. Since a CPU which is low in ability and, in its turn, in price and a ROM, RAM, etc., which has a small storage capacity and, accordingly, is small in size and low in price can be used and, in addition, an excessive or idle capacity or a storage space can be utilized effectively, the size and price of the GPS receiver can be reduced.
