PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a water content measuring method and water content measuring method capable of precisely measuring the water content of a measuring object temporally changeable in physical properties by long-term use. SOLUTION: In a control part 20, the water content of a garbage treating material 32 is calculated by use of a water content calculation equation using second light receiving data by a silicon photodiode 40b which is hardly influenced by the water content and sensitive to the change with the lapse of time of physical properties as a correction item in order to eliminate the influence by the change with the time from first light receiving data by a pyroelectric sensor 40a which is sensitive to the water content and the change of physical properties with the time.
