The liner has a low basis weight top layer, and its base layer comprises recycled paper pulp delignified and bleached in the presence of sodium carbonate, using oxygen or a combination thereof with hydrogen peroxide. A multi-layer kraft liner comprises at least one base layer and at least one top layer, giving a total basis weight of 60-300 g/m2. More than 50 wt.% of the base layer comprises recycled paper pulp, preferably from recycled cardboard, and the base layer pulp is delignified to a degree of 20-60 % and bleached to a brightness greater than 28 % ISO. Delignification and bleaching is carried out using oxygen or a combination of oxygen and hydrogen peroxide, in the presence of sodium carbonate. The top layer comprises a paper pulp with a brightness greater than 40 % ISO and a maximum basis weight of 60 g/m2. An Independent claim is also included for the method of making the liner. |
