METHOD FOR RECOVERING ETHYLENE GLYCOL

PURPOSE: Provided is a method for recovering ethylene glycol under mild conditions by a simple process with high purity, in which the solvent and starting materials discharged from the process are recycled, thereby reducing the cost. CONSTITUTION: The method for recovering ethylene glycol comprises the steps of: concentrating waste liquid containing alkali/alkaline earth metals discharged from the process for preparing terephthalic acid from polyethylene terephthalate; precipitating salts with a C1-C4 alcohol and filtering it to obtain filtrate; and performing a first distillation and a second distillation. The first distillation step is carried out under 0.5-1.0 kg/cm¬2 at 50-85 deg.C. The second distillation step is carried out under 0.5-1.0 kg/cm¬2 at 80-150 deg.C.
