PURPOSE: A plasma display panel and a method for driving the same are provided to display a linear gray scale by preventing the inversion phenomena of gray scale. CONSTITUTION: A plasma display panel includes an inverse gamma correction unit and an average image value unit. The inverse gamma correction unit corrects a gamma corrected video data supplied from outside. And, the average image value unit generates N step signals to control the number of sustain pulses by receiving the inverse gamma corrected video data, N being a natural number, as well as determines the number of sustain pulses corresponding to the N step signals by a descending method.
