The invention relates to a radial internal combustion engine with spherical pistons having a unique cam configuration to determine relative constant velocity reciprocating motion of the cylinders. According to the invention the rotary internal combustion engine is provided with a stationary cylindrical housing (12), a rotor (28) having a circular wall (30) at least two rows of radially extending circular passageways (34, 36 and 38) forming a compression cylinder (34) and some power cylinders (36 and 38) spaced from each other along the axis of rotation, each of the power cylinders (36 and 38) completely crossing the circular wall (30), a circular stator (26) within the housing (12) and comprised by the circular wall (30) of the rotor (28) for supplying, transferring and carrying away the working fluid to and from said cylinders (34, 36 and 38), each of the cylinders (34, 36 and 38) containing a rotatable spherical piston (42, 43 and 46), rotating freely and making a straight reciprocating motion, an inner surface (48) of a wall (14) of the housing (12) being provided with a stationary means playing the role of cam, provided with a circular path formed by a pair of the edges (A and B, C and D, and E and F) mounted inside the housing (12) which surrounds the cylinders (34, 36 and 38), each stationary means playing the role of a cam comprising a means contacting each of the spherical pistons (42, 44 and 46) in order to perform straight reciprocating motions inside the engine cylinders (34, 36 and 38), when the rotor (28) rotates a driving shaft (32) linked with the rotor (28).
