<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a control device for a vehicle which prohibits change-over of shift ranges of a transfer in case such a fail that affects realization of a disconnected state of an automatic transmission exists. <P>SOLUTION: As change-over of shift ranges of the transfer 8 is requested by a driver, and when a transfer change-over lever 21 is switched, a change-over request detecting means 11 detects a change-over request. A power transmission disconnecting means 12 then releases an engagement element to be released to disconnect power transmission between an engine 2 and drive wheels, a change-over control means 13 controls change-over of the transfer 8 during power disconnection, and an existing fail detecting means 17 and a change-over determining means 18 detect a fail state of the power transmission disconnecting means 12.
