PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method capable of efficiently producing a polymeric compound of high purity having a double bond in the side chain which is useful for an image-forming material from the standpoints of productivity, sensitivity, strength and the like. SOLUTION: With the use of a compound having a functional group to be represented by formula (1) (wherein A1is an oxygen atom, a sulfur atom or -N(R4)-; R1, R2, R3, and R4are each independently hydrogen or a monovalent organic group; and X1and Z1are groups to be eliminated by elimination reaction), the elimination reaction is caused in the functional group to obtain a compound having a functional group to be represented by formula (2) (wherein A1, R2, R2, and R3are the same as defined above).
