<p>An improved continuous centrifuge for separating two liquids of different densities from a sediment, e.g. separating oil, water and pulp in the prodn. of olive oil from crushed olives. The centrifuge is the horizontal bowl type with screw conveyor for the discharge of sediment at one end of the bowl while the liquids are passed through separate exists at the other end. Essentially, the conveyor is formed on a central tubular casing which delivers the light phase liquid axially over a radial flange weir, the heavy phase liquid being drawn from the centre of a collecting zone. This prevents turbulence at the liquid interface and gives highly efficient separation.</p> |
